Raymond P. Collien, 87, of LeRoy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Ray was born the son of Edwin ‘Pat’ and Erna (Meyer) Collien on June 13, 1937.
He was a 1955 graduate of Mayville High School.
Ray was united in marriage to Joanne Kahlhamer on October 4, 1958, at St. Andrew in LeRoy. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. He had worked at Maysteel and retired from Rumar Manufacturing in 2001. Alongside his wife, they ran a tavern in ‘downtown’ LeRoy – Collien’s Country Inn and later in ‘uptown’ LeRoy – Ma’s Place.
Ray was a faithful member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, where he served his parish on the church board as well as being a past trustee. He also loved to share his God-given talent singing for many fellow church members’ funerals and weddings and played the role of St. Nick for children of the church. Ray also loved his community in LeRoy and was the past town supervisor. He also loved youth sports and was the treasurer and past coach of the LeRoy Athletic Club for over 56 years. Additionally, Ray was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf and membership at the Mayville Golf Course.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joanne of LeRoy; his daughters, Julie (David) Semrau of Allenton and Janel (Rob) King of Brownsville; his son, Jason (Tami) Collien of Rio; his grandchildren, Garrett Semrau, Alexus (Justin) LaMonte, Paige Semrau, Treyton Semrau, Katelyn King, and Madelyn King; his great-grandson, Liam LaMonte; his sister, Dolores Neumeyer; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Justin; siblings, Helen (Roland) Beck, Rosie (Jack) Wald, Edward (Lucille) Collien, Melvin ‘Cookie’ (Margaret) Collien, and Maxine (Leo) Weyer; brother-in-law, Lawrence Neumeyer.
