Old Village Hall Museum In Neosho Listed On State And National Register Of Historic Places
The Neosho Old Village Hall museum, 115 Schuyler Street, Neosho, was listed on the State and National Registry of Historic Places on May 18 and September 27, 2018, respectively. This great honor was sponsored by the Neosho/Rubicon Historical Society, caretakers of the museum.
The building was constructed more than 100 years ago, beginning in 1914, with completion in 1922. The citizens of Neosho used locally produced concrete block for construction of this center of government and modern services. The original building held village government offices as well as plays, basketball games, and community gatherings. There were even jail cells in the basement for the local roustabouts. In addition, the Old Village Hall housed the local fire department. The toll from the bell in the tower was the call for all to help fight fires in the surrounding areas.
